COVID-19 Research Virtual Town Halls will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. every Friday starting April 3, The forum for campus researchers will be moderated by Allison Brashear, dean of the School of Medicine, and Prasant Mohapatra, vice chancellor of research.

UC Davis Health has two clinical trials underway for hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2. The studies are evaluating the safety and effectiveness of two drugs — the investigational antiviral remdesivir, and sarilumab, a drug that blocks the body’s acute inflammatory response.

Anticipating a scarcity of medical devices and a lack of treatment options for COVID-19, UC Davis College of Engineering researchers are investigating innovative technology to manufacture masks, ventilators and other critical equipment.

As California officials desperately try to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, Chris Miller is coaxing a sample of the virus to grow in a secure laboratory at UC Davis. Working in a laboratory nestled inside containment rooms and cut off from the world by filters, scientists dressed in space suit-like protective gear are feeding cells to a virus isolated from a COVID-19 patient at UC Davis Medical Center.

Clinical pathologists, infectious disease physicians and scientists at the UC Davis Medical Center, School of Medicine, California National Primate Research Center and Center for Immunology and Infectious Diseases are collaborating on new reagents, diagnostic tests and a vaccine for the COVID-19 coronavirus.

David Coil, a project scientist working with Professor Jonathan Eisen at the UC Davis Genome Center, has submitted a paper on the potential for transmission of SARS-CoV-2  through built environment (BE). This is a pre-print: this version is not peer-reviewed.
